Each plank is scraped by hand resulting is a unique, character rich finish that cannot be mirrored in machine-scraped floors.
Standing water can warp hardwood floors and can damage the finish. Simply wipe up all spills as soon as they happen.
Weight, shrinkage, strength and other properties depend on the moisture content of wood. In trees, moisture content may be as much as 200 percent of the weight of wood substance. After harvesting and milling, the wood will be dried to the proper moisture content for its end use.
Lift the furniture to move it avoid dragging. Felt contacts under the legs will help prevent scratches.
Direct sun can discolour your hardwood floor. Close curtains and blinds or add sheer drapes to protect your floor from the intense UV rays of the sun.
Only use brooms with fine, exploded ends to trap dust and grit effectively.
Canister vacuums with special bare floor attachments are the surest way to get rid of all dirt and dust.
Surface wear will be more evident on:
- Light color and finely grained species ( Maple)
- A high lustre ( gloss or semi-gloss) finish
- Very dark wood floors, while dramatic, also tend to show dirt and dust more than mid-range or light color species
Surface wear will be less evident on:
- Species with pronounced grain patterns and rich natural color-oak, cherry, walnut
- Wood with low lustre matte or “satin” finish
